the stitching workshop - examples

Examples of our work on boat cushions.

In the examples shown below are a set of eight boat cushions that we recovered using our stock fabric, Lambourne. This particular fabric is fire retardant with a foam backing, which made it the ideal choice to give support to some rather tired boat cushions.

The fabric has a very hard-wearing corduroy finish that is good for ‘utility’ cushions. Buttons where chosen by the customer to give the large cushions some detail and to complete the look. The odd shapes and the slanting edges where not a problem for us, there was also no extra charge. However we did make a 10% extra charge on the two backrest cushions, as they needed extra flaps and studs to attach to the bulkhead.

Velcro has been used on the full length undersides of the cushions, as they are to fit into a boat. If we had used zips they would have needed repairing far more often due to rust from the sea conditions.

Reviving the seats of a VW family Camper.

We have done numerous vintage VW split screen and bay window campers, which have ranged from very expensive vintage-style recreations to unique one-off surf campers.

Below is an example of how creative we were able to be with a customer's VW seats. We used retro-style leather look vinyl that was piped and also used our customer's old Levis jeans!

The customer in the examples shown below wanted to brighten up his old type 25 VW. He wanted new covers on the rock and roll bed cushions and the single inside seat, making four cushions in total. The customer chose two tones of automotive clearance fabrics. These were combined to break up the colour of the seats, so they would appear not so dull. At a small extra charge we piped the ends, which added some more characteristics to the seats. The cushions were stapled to the existing backboards.

Below we have broken down the cost of upholstering the two sets of cushions. For a full breakdown of labour costs click here.
